Atlassian — Product Design Internship
Designing AI-powered experiences, scalable design system components, and enterprise IT tooling.

👤 Product Design Intern

🕒 November - February 2026 (3 Months)

👥 Jira Service Management · Atlassian Design System · Rovo AI

Project Overview 📘

During my internship at Atlassian I was embedded in the Jira Service Management team - working across AI-powered experiences, enterprise IT asset management, and core design system contributions. Every project required me to balance user needs against technical constraints, business priorities, and the scale of a platform used by millions.

My process consistently started with competitive analysis and precedent research before touching Figma - understanding the problem space deeply before proposing solutions. I collaborated closely with PMs, engineers, a principal designer, and a lead designer, owning stakeholder presentations and driving alignment across disciplines throughout.

Highlights 🚀

01 — Rovo AI Recap⚡ShipIt

Atlassian's AI product Rovo processes thousands of interactions daily - but users had no way to reflect on the value those interactions had created over time. There was no moment of pause, no way to see your AI journey at a glance.

Working solo and fully end-to-end, I mapped existing Wrapped-style experiences across the industry to understand what made them resonate emotionally, then defined the core insight framework - what data would actually feel meaningful vs what would just be noise.

I designed entirely in Figma using Atlassian's tokenised design system and component library - maintaining colour token standards, spacing scales, and accessibility requirements throughout. I collaborated directly with the principal designer for Rovo Desktop Emerging Experiences to ensure the concept aligned with the broader product vision and leveraged existing components correctly.

From there I built a fully functional working prototype in Replit, integrated real user usage data and behavioural patterns to generate personalised artefacts and stats, and produced a complete end-to-end user flow from 0 to 1. I also created a demonstration walkthrough video and full documentation. Total build time was 48 hours - solo.

The result was featured in Atlassian's company-wide #announcements channel, reaching 16,900+ employees, and received direct commendation from C-suite & senior leadership for product value and ROI. 🫶

02 — ITAM Inventory Management

Enterprise IT teams needed a clearer, more intuitive way to track hardware and software assets across the company. Existing interfaces were dense, inconsistent, and difficult to navigate at scale - particularly for administrators managing thousands of assets with complex metadata and attribute relationships.

Before touching Figma, I invested significant time in stakeholder management and discovery - understanding the intricacies of asset metadata, attribute schemas, and how IT administrators actually think about inventory at scale. I conducted competitive analysis across leading enterprise ITAM tools to understand how competitors structured their forms, surfaced key attributes, and handled complex filtering and bulk actions.

I designed and prototyped in Figma using a strict PRD from the PM and tokenised components provided by the principal designer - maintaining design system compliance throughout every iteration. I used Cursor and Replit to validate interaction behaviour in prototype form. The process involved regular sparring sessions and weekly design jams for critique and iteration, with revision cycles driven by feedback from PMs, engineers, and senior designers ensuring every decision was grounded in real product requirements.

03 — Atlassian Visualisation Platform

The Atlassian Design System lacked a consistent, scalable set of graph and chart components - a gap that created inconsistency in how data was communicated across products. Uniquely, this project had no PRD and no PM - which made it significantly more challenging and required me to define scope, direction, and success criteria independently.

I worked directly with the principal designer who originally built the visualisation platform - now in a different role - getting their approval to bring new life to existing components while making appropriate, considered changes where innovation was warranted. I collaborated with a content designer to ensure all labelling, axis descriptions, and data language was clear, semantic, and accessible to enterprise users at scale.

I prototyped the components and presented them to the wider engineering team to showcase real-world use cases - feeding large enterprise data from CDM into the graphs to demonstrate how they performed with genuine data loads. The work required making complex, data-heavy information readable, semantic, and usable across multiple product contexts.

The components were approved and permanently integrated into the Atlassian Design System - now used across product teams with no PRM safety net, just craft and conviction.

Other Contributions 📋

  • Conducted competitive analysis and precedent research to inform design decisions across multiple projects

  • Managed stakeholder alignment and presentations across PMs, designers, and engineers

  • Produced onboarding materials and Loom walkthroughs to document and communicate design decisions

  • Pitched a personal initiative exploring neurodivergent-friendly workspace design within Atlassian's product ecosystem

There's so much more to this story. 🔒

Due to NDA I can't share screens or files publicly - but I can walk you through my full process, research insights, design decisions, and outcomes in detail during an interview or call.
